Track Name: Bring It On
Out on the edge with a matador's heart,
it's getting so lonely and it's getting so dark,
bring it on

You always were a child, lost, lonely and wild,
you can try to run, you can try to hide,
ah, bring it on.

When I saw god's face in the sky, he had this look in his eyes,
I heard him speak, and my knees went weak,
bring it on.

Well, I wrestled with that angel, I wrestled all night,
and he dashed out my brains and he filled me with fright, bring it on.

Well, you said I was a fool, you stuck your knives in my back,
but you've never been where I've been and you'd never make it back,
bring it on.

I saw god's face in the sky, he had this look in his eyes,
I heard him speak, and my knees went weak,
bring it on

I've been to the deep place and I've been to the dark,
and I held my own my while terror froze my heart,
bring it on.

I talked to that angel, we talked all night,
and he helped me up and he said I'd be alright,
so bring it on.

I saw god's face in the sky, he had this look in his eyes,
I heard him speak, and my knees went weak,
ah, bring it on.

Out on the edge with a matador's heart,
it's getting so lonely, it's getting so dark,
bring it on.

You always were a child lost, lonely and wild,
you can try to run, you can try to hide,
it's coming on.

I saw god's face in the sky, he had this look in his eyes,
I heard him speak, and my knees went weak,
ah, bring it on.
Track Name: Jerusalem's Burning
She stands like a waterfall,
in the shelter of my ears,
whenever I hear her voice,
it's the sound of water that I hear.

Oh, gasoline summer,
red moon on the rise,
I saw Jerusalem burning,
in her eyes.

She's fire and water,
coursing through my viens,
she's neither one or the other,
if you know what I mean.

Dark night of the soul,
that ain't no joke.
I might've been there once myself,
nearly beyond hope.

All softness and wonder,
when she draws near,
with her hand held high,
saying do not fear.

She's fire and water,
coursing through my viens,
she's neither one or the other,
if you know what I mean.

I heard the news on the tv,
I ran to the fire escape,
but when I got there,
it was too late.

My building was burning,
just like the rest of the street,
and she was asking,
how do you like the heat?

But even in this, my loneliness,
I know that I'm still blessed,
because she's always here beside me,
like a welcome guest.

She's fire and water,
coursing through my viens,
she's neither one or the other,
if you know what I mean.

She's fire and water,
coursing through my viens,
she's neither one or the other,
if you know what I mean.
Track Name: Sculpture Of You
Cartoon bullfighters and whiskey,
plenty of that stuff going on around here.
The women all wear cheap corsets, stare for hours,
into little hand held diamond encrusted jade mirrors.

And the streets are all muddy,
just like the hallways of your soul.
And there's a blindman on every corner,
so far from home.

This waltz of sad faces, well, it's weaving its way
like a snake through these dirty streets.
And the dancers, they all look so hungry
but there's plenty to eat.

There's lots of gold in this town,
and there's plenty, there's plenty of silver too,
and they're using it to build themselves an idol
in the courtyard, and babe it's a sculpture of you.

I lost your last letter,
I didn't need to do that to myself again.
I used it with a little gasoline to build myself a fire,
sitting around, getting drunk last night with an old lost friend.

But when I woke up this morning, ah Lazarus
he was staring hard right down into my face.
and his eyes they were two twin fires,
that he calls grace.

This waltz of sad faces, well, it's weaving its way
like a snake through these dirty streets.
And the dancers, they all look so hungry
but there's plenty to eat.

There's lots of gold in this town,
and there's plenty, there plenty of silver too,
and they're using it to build themselves an idol
in the courtyard, and babe it's a sculpture of you.

I saw your momma praying outside the drugstore,
said they won't take her prescriptions there no more.
At least until the sheriff came along, he's hooked on crystal meth,
ah he loves your momma, they call them Mr. and Mrs. Big Out West.

They like to get together, midnight, at that town well,
and your mother sings a lovely song in Japanese,
and the Sheriff gets that stupid look on his face,
as he drops to his knees.

Track Name: White Ships
Odysseus is a drunk in the downtown east-side,
he's standing on the corner waiting for his virgin bride,
and the sidewalk humps at his feet like a roadside heap,
Penelope's dreaming lotteries as she turns in her sleep.
As the spirals gyre like corkscrews in his eyes,
he weaves a song around his wrist like a snake that glides,
and everybody knows he's got time on his side,
as he weaves a crooked flag that he tosses on the tide.

And the white ships are sailing on the dim breasted sea,
Telemachus is trying, but he just can't see,
that daddy is dying on the church of his knees.

And the lady down the street lives in a house shaped like an ark,
and everybody knows she's got a salamander for a heart.
She keeps the curtains shut, she lives in the dark,
but everybody knows she'll tear out your heart,
she's trying so hard those words for to say,
but a wide shouldered man always gets in the way.
In her attic are hung all the men she has known,
they hang there like portraits, their eyes are all closed.

And the white ships are sailing on the dim breasted sea,
Telemachus is trying, but he just can't see,
that daddy is dying on the church of his knees.

And a gutted unicorn was found hanging from a tree,
in New York Central Park on New Year's Eve,
and the chief of police, he made up an alibi,
because the daughter of Christ was found hiding inside.
They found her walking down 42nd street,
her skin had turned blue, she was wearing a sheet,
and all the newspapers said, she was crying so hard,
because she'd never find sweet Bethlehem's star.

And the white ships are sailing on the dim breasted sea,
Telemachus is trying, but he just can't see,
that daddy is dying on the church of his knees.

And Odysseus is a drunk in the downtown east-side,
and Penelope is dreaming lotteries as she turns on her side,
and a gutted unicorn was found hanging from a tree,
in New York Central Park on New Year's Eve.
Track Name: What If I Said
There ain't nobody watching,
their eyes have all turned to lead,
there ain't nobody talking,
they just listen to the voices in their heads,
there ain't nobody feeling nothing,
'cause that ain't what you're supposed to do.
There's nobody here but me and you,
there's nobody here but me and you.

How come the sky has turned to dust,
you can pick up and hold it in your hands?
How come some fool says love,
it's just assumed you understand?
How come that water's running high,
you still can't find nothing to drink?
It's not what you might think,
no man, it ain't what you might think.

And what if I said that I don't like you,
and what if I said that I don't care?
And what if I said that I'm lost,
that I can't find my way out of here,
that I can't find my way out of here?

This girl she had a secret,
she wrote it once upon a time on the sun.
That man there in the suit, he's a reader,
he took out his binoculars and read it to everyone.

Put her secret in the newspaper,
put it right up there on the tv,
and the next time that girl saw that man,
she said there ain't nobody here but you and me,
ain't nobody here but you and me.

And what if I said that I don't like you,
and what if I said that I don't care?
And what if I said that I'm lost,
that I can't find my way out of here,
that I can't find my way out of here?

This boy wrapped himself in dynamite,
he said hey look mom, I'm a bomb!
Pretty young thing from down the street,
said you look good to me,
won't you take me to the prom?

They walked arm and arm,
down to that high school of pain,
and they blew it right up into the sky,
and everybody watching broke down and cried,
even that news anchor broke down and cried.

And what if I said that I don't like you,
and what if I said that I don't care?
And what if I said that I'm lost,
that I can't find my way out of here,
that I can't find my way out of here?
Track Name: Dead Man's Town
God’s on his haunches out on the back porch,
he’s reading a road map, he’s a little off course.
My sister’s in the back yard talking to a dead horse,
that’s me curled up in the corner of course.
Welcome to this dead man’s town,
everything’s changed since you stopped coming around.
Oh baby, who’s gonna save me!

Momma’s all glassy eyed, it must be the drugs,
she’s lying on carpet, down there on the rug.
The tv’s show's playing that same game show,
Pedro winks at me, he’s in the know.
Welcome to dead mans’ town,
everything’s changed since you stopped coming around.
Oh baby, no need to save me.

I wrote myself a letter. This is what it said.
My teeth are all yellow and I wish I was dead.
The sun was a big fat blister up above my head.
I went out and bought myself a newspaper instead.
Welcome to dead man’s town,
everything’s changed since you stopped coming around.
Oh baby, don’t try and save me.

I called up my friend. They say he’s a poet.
He said he could help me. He said sure, yeah, you know it.
He’d write me a poem, yeah, that’s what he said.
Then he bought himself a shotgun and shot himself dead
Welcome to dead man’s town.
Everything’s changed since you stopped coming around.
Oh baby, don’t try and save me.

I’m sitting in the kitchen, just sucking on my thumb,
waiting for the second coming to come. How come
this night’s rattling like an old oil drum?
Nobody told me this weren’t no fun.
Welcome to dead man’s town.
Everything’s changed since you stopped coming around.
Oh baby, you can’t save me.

Just taking photographs of this weird parade.
Just taking photographs of this weird parade.
I’m sitting on the front porch drinking pink lemonade
I’m taking photographs of this weird parade.
Sitting on the front porch drinking parade,
taking photographs of this weird parade.
Hey Butch hand me some pink lemonade.
Track Name: Song Of Roses
Carrying my heart in a plastic bag,
I'm knocking on doors and I'm running away.
I'm chased by an angel with furious eyes,
not a moment of peace and a choir of lies.

I'm trapped in the ashes, I'm waiting to heal,
I'm dreaming of a nightingale lost in a field,
with a beak of wonder and a song of roses.

I'm tired of your firm handshakes, your nodding smiles
and all my spent prayers,
I want to be broken like glass in the street,
like the pounding of feet in the getaway night.

I'm trapped in the ashes, I'm waiting to heal,
I'm dreaming of a nightingale lost in a field,
with a beak of wonder and a song of roses.

I was hoping you could break me out of this dream,
place your hand on my heart and put it to sleep.
But happiness is something that I don't know,
I'm looking for god but I got miles and miles to go.

I'm trapped in the ashes, I'm waiting to heal,
I'm dreaming of a nightingale lost in a field,
with a beak of wonder and a song of roses.
Track Name: Don't Want No One
The man on the moon, he poured himself a drink.
He said I'm going to sit me down here for awhile and have myself a think.
And the stars, they all shut their eyes,
and I don't know why but my baby said goodbye.

I went and met this woman, she's all dressed up in red,
she be the kind of woman do somersaults right on your head.
All the children, they just laughed and played,
and I don't know why but my baby, she went away.

I've been searching for an angel, but you know,
I can't find one.
I've been hunting for some refuge, but you know, I can't buy none.
Oh, if I can't have my baby, you know, I don't want no one.

She said look through this keyhole and tell me what you see,
I said I'm sorry lover mine but that just don't look like no keyhole to me,
She got so mad, she slapped me across the face,
she said my momma always told Rodney, that you'd be a hard case.

I've been searching for an angel, but you know,
I can't find one.
I've been hunting for some refuge, but you know, I can't find none.
Oh, if I can't have my baby, you know, I don't want no one.

I saw her face up on a giant billboard sign,
she was grinning like a mad woman,
said come taste my pancakes some time.
I just stared, I shook my head in disbelief,
my baby's been gone now for fifty-seven weeks.

I've been searching for an angel, but you know,
I can't find one.
I've been hunting for some refuge, but you know, I can't find none.
Oh, if I can't have my baby, you know, I don't want no one.
Track Name: Ginger Goodwin
He stood five foot six and he had rotten teeth,
lots of time in his life he didn't get enough to eat,
he worked in the mines, down in the cold, cold ground,
but when he was here he made a big, big sound.

Said he wasn't going to fight no rich man's war,
said if he was going to fight, he'd fight for the poor,
and he didn't just talk it, no, that's the way that he lived,
so the government, you know, they did what they did.

He was Ginger Goodwin, the poor man's friend,
He was Ginger Goodwin, from Cumberland.

He didn't think a man should work more than eight hours a day,
and for those eight hours he should get fair pay,
he didn't think that anyone was anyone's slave,
and for those thoughts they put him away.

He had TB, the government said he couldn't fight,
but they sure changed their minds after that Trail strike,
but Ginger always said he was a pacifist,
there was no way in hell that he was going to enlist.

He was Ginger Goodwin, the poor man's friend,
He was Ginger Goodwin, from Cumberland.

He went back to Cumberland when the government came looking for him,
he headed up to the mountains, up by Comox Lake,
yeah, you know, they were going to find him,
but they were miners, hard men to take.

Along came Dan Campbell, a liar and a thief,
he was a perfect candidate for the Dominion Police.
He knew those woods well and he was a good shot,
and the thing about Dan Campbell he could be bought.

Ginger was coming down the path at the end of the day,
Dan Campbell was hiding behind a tree to blow him away,
he stepped right out and he shot him in the throat,
that's what a man gets for building hope.

They gunned down Ginger Goodwin, the poor man's friend,
they gunned down Ginger Goodwin, from Cumberland.
Track Name: No Water In The Well
There's no water in well,
there ain't no water in the well,
little sister you can't tell,
there ain't no water in the well.

There ain't no water in the well,
there ain't no water in the well,
little sister you can't tell,
there ain't no water in the well.

Dark moon rising,
I can hear her crying,
there's no water in the well,
there ain't no water in the well.

He pushed her down on the floor,
said girl don't here no more,
he pushed her down on the floor,
said girl don't come here no more,
he pushed her down on the floor,
said girl don't come here no more.

There ain't no water in the well,
there ain't no water in the well.
Little sister, why can't you tell?
There ain't no water in the well.

Dark moon rising,
I can hear her crying,
there's no water in the well,
there ain't no water in the well.

She shouted out a name,
it's was the Lord's name,
he said don't take it in vain,
she shouted out a name,
it was the Lord's name,
he said don't take it in vain,
she shouted out a name,
it was the Lord's name.

There's no water in the well,
there ain't no water in the well,
little sister you can't tell,
there's no water in the well.

Dark moon rising,
I can hear her crying,
there's no water in the well,
there ain't no water in the well.

He put his hand down there,
he grabbed her by the hair,
he said I really don't care.
He put his hand down there,
he grabbed her by the hair,
he said I really don't care.

There's no water in the well,
there ain't no water in the well.
Little sister, why can't you tell?
There ain't no water in the well.

Dark moon rising,
I can hear her crying,
there's no water in the well,
there ain't no water in the well.
Track Name: Lorraine
I had a dream, it's not what it seems,
it was a vision of you in the rain,
you were standing right outside my door,
ah, Lorraine.

You said I seemed so much nicer somehow,
but you live so far in your palace by the shore,
the only problem is, no one lives there no more,
ah Lorraine.

And I had a vision of you in the rain,
you were standing right outside my door,
you said no tears no more,
I said that's good, I hope it's understood,
ah Lorraine.

You said you that were going to change,
I said don't rearrange, unless you have to,
and that's what decorators are for,
you can find one of them fellows just about any store,
alright, any night, ah Lorraine.

I kind of like the way you move,
it kind of feels like the breeze,
especially when you pass by me,
it kind of feels like, no pun intended,
like the rain.

And I had a vision of you in the rain,
you were standing right outside my door,
you said no tears no more,
I said that's good, I hope it's understood,
ah Lorraine.

Well, I heard your voice,
it sounded like a star in the sky,
so wild and so high and so far away.
ah, Lorraine,

You said you were going to come by sometime,
I said babe, hey that's fine,
you got your friends and I got mine,
ah Lorraine.

And I had a vision of you in the rain,
you were standing right outside my door,
you said no tears no more,
I said that's good, I hope it's understood,
ah Lorraine.
Track Name: Black Sun
There was a man, born beneath a black sun,
there was a man, 'til kingdom come.
There was a man with a hole in his heart,
there was a man, well, he walked with the dark.
Oh and that black sun, it hung up in the sky,
and there was a man, you know, he said he never cried,
he said he never, he never cried.

There was a woman, said she knew that man,
there was a woman, and she said she loved that man.
She went down into winter, down to find that man,
there was a woman and there was a man,
there was a woman and there was a man.

She went down and found that man, down in his cave of ice,
she said unto that man you know you got to do what's right.
Well, that man he turned away, he pulled the clouds across his face,
he said unto that woman you know I never found I never found no grace,
I never found, I never found no grace.

Well, you know that woman, she got up and left that place,
well, you know that woman she took just one look at his face,
and that black sun, it hung up there in the sky,
and there was a man, he said he never, he never cried,
he said he never, he never cried.
Track Name: Down By The River
Down by the riverside,
I took a young girl there, I made her my bride.
Her dress was white, her hair was gold,
and everywhere I travel this story gets told,
and every time I tell it my blood runs cold.

Her laughter was so pure, it could make me cry.
I'd lose myself for days staring into her eyes,
her touch was soft, it was soft as night,
in the valley of my soul she was my light.

I trusted her more than I trusted my own self,
and I loved her wildly, like I loved nobody self.
I never thought that she could do me wrong,
but a man turns fool when his love's too strong.

Down by the riverside,
I took a young girl there, I made her my bride.
Her dress was white, her hair was gold,
and everywhere I travel this story gets told,
and every time I tell it my blood runs cold.

I was working a night shift down at the mill,
I went home early because I wasn't feeling well.
Walking down the road I sensed that something wasn't right,
it's funny how you know things like I knew it that night.

Walking up the pathway what did I see?
Two shapes behind the curtain, and neither one was me.
And no I didn't shake, and no I didn't cry,
I just turned me right around and walked on down that riverside,
I sat there all night until the early sunrise.

Down by the riverside,
I took a young girl there, I made her my bride.
Her dress was white, her hair was gold,
and everywhere I travel this story gets told,
and every time I tell it my blood runs cold.

In that early morning light, I got me up and walked me home.
Of course, when I got there she was all alone.
Later that evening, just around twilight,
yeah, we went out walking, just me and my wife.

I said we ought to go down to the spot where we was wed,
just a silly thought running through my head I said.
And when I touched her shoulder it was plain to see,
the knowledge in her eyes when she turned to look at me,
and no I didn't shake, and no I didn't cry, as I choked her down the at the riverside.
